Bring Global Affairs Into the Classroom!

 

CFR Education offers a range of professional development (PD) opportunities to prepare educators to teach global affairs in middle school and high school. From virtual to in-person sessions, CFR Education can meet the needs of your state, district, or school. Sessions include expert facilitation that helps teachers to foster the knowledge, skills, and perspective that students need to succeed in our increasingly globalized world.

With CFR Education professional development, you will receive:

  • Expert facilitation: All sessions are led by CFR Education staff who are experienced K-12 teachers.
  • Free resources: Attendees receive access to free CFR Education resources as well as  planning materials used during the session.
  • Certificate of Completion: CFR Education will issue a certificate of completion for the hours spent engaged in PD. (CFR Education is not responsible for determining if the workshop and certificate meet state or district requirements for PD credit.) Feel free to contact us with questions.

Webinars

Wondering how to get started? Try these introductory webinars on teaching global affairs for middle school and high school educators. All webinars are virtual, free, and 50 minutes in length. 

  • Global Affairs in the History Classroom: Incorporate a global approach to U.S. and world history courses with a focus on the evolving U.S. role in the world.
  • Global Affairs in the Geography Classroom: Explore approaches to integrating current events and global issues into your geography course and help students connect geographic concepts and processes to real-life scenarios.
  • Teaching Global Current Events: Discover best practices for how to build student engagement and understanding of today’s most pressing global issues.
  • Teaching Climate Change as a Global Issue: Learn best practices for incorporating climate change into ANY classroom. Empower students with solutions-based approaches to climate change.
     

 

Virtual Seminars

CFR Education virtual seminars give middle and high school teachers experience with hands-on classroom activities that build critical thinking skills and emphasize project-based learning. These virtual seminars are free, two hours long, and leave time to discuss the unique needs of your school, district, or state.

  • Using Simulations in the Social Studies Classroom: Participate in a CFR Education simulation and discuss best practices for integrating simulations into class. Pick any CFR Education simulation for the seminar–or receive suggestions.
  • Engaging Students in Global Affairs: Implement tools and techniques to bring the fundamentals of global affairs to life! You pick the topics that work with your social studies classes.

 

Custom Workshops

Bring global affairs to your professional development day or PLC. Teachers will learn how to incorporate global affairs content into the courses they already teach. Workshops include time for teachers to work together on lesson or unit plans and receive feedback. These half-day or full-day workshops are offered in person or online.
